The king of the jungle was pushed off his throne at Umlani Bushcamp in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Kruger National Park, when a herd of buffalo came to rescue one of their own.
The herd charged at two lions who tried their luck at a lone buffalo, making the big cats feel like kittens (note the look of shame/disappointment on this lion’s face).
The younger of the two lions was either smart or fearful enough to run away when the buffalo approached, while the other tried to put up a fight.
Although a sight like this is quite rare, it comes soon after a leopard was attacked by two porcupines, also at Kruger National Park. Coincidence, or are the “underdogs” fighting back? Either way, the unpredictability of nature will always astound us.
