Chitwan district is facing a shortage of blood with blood donation camps not taking place for the past few weeks due to the local level elections that concluded recently. Chief of Regional Blood Transfusion Center, Bharatpur, Ramesh Kanta Poudel admitted to the blood shortage, blaming the pre and post-election process for failing to hold blood donation programmes in recent days. The district needs a demand for 100 to 150 units of blood on a daily basis which would be met by supplying blood from other districts as the district alone cannot collect enough blood to meet the demand. However, the election process, pre and post, has affected the supply, causing a shortage, Poudel said. Meanwhile, Manakamana Hospital in the locality has organised a blood donation programme. “We have organised the programme to compensate for the shortage of blood,” said the hospital proprietor Dhurba Kafle.
